About the Brand

Swiss Luxury Since 1848

Omega is one of the most storied names in watchmaking, founded in 1848 by Louis Brandt in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. The brand earned its name from its revolutionary 19-ligne caliber in 1894 — so perfect it was called 'Omega,' the final letter of the Greek alphabet.

Omega's legacy is built on precision timing and historic firsts. The brand has been the official Olympic timekeeper since 1932, was chosen by NASA for the Apollo missions (making the Speedmaster the first watch on the Moon in 1969), and has been James Bond's watch of choice since 1995.

Today, Omega's Master Chronometer certification — tested by METAS — represents the highest standard of accuracy and magnetic resistance in the industry, with watches performing within 0-5 seconds per day and resisting magnetic fields of 15,000 gauss.

With the Co-Axial escapement technology pioneered by George Daniels, Omega offers movements that require less frequent servicing and maintain accuracy longer than traditional lever escapements.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the most popular Omega model?

+

The Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch is Omega's most iconic model, famous as the first watch on the Moon. The Seamaster Diver 300M is the brand's best-selling current model.

What is a Master Chronometer?

+

Master Chronometer is Omega's certification tested by METAS. It guarantees accuracy of 0-5 seconds per day, magnetic resistance to 15,000 gauss, and water resistance — exceeding standard COSC certification.

Is Omega better than Rolex?

+

They excel in different areas. Omega offers superior magnetic resistance, transparent pricing, and better availability. Rolex offers stronger resale value and more exclusive brand perception. Both make exceptional watches.

How often should an Omega be serviced?

+

Omega recommends servicing Co-Axial watches every 8-10 years, longer than most brands thanks to the reduced friction of the Co-Axial escapement.
