The History of Czapek

François Czapek was Patek Philippe's original partner before Antoine Philippe joined. In 2015, entrepreneurs revived his name to create something special: refined dress watches with haute horlogerie finishing at prices below the traditional luxury establishment.

The Original Czapek

François Czapek (1811-1869) was a Czech watchmaker who established Czapek & Cie in Geneva in 1839 with Antoine Norbert de Patek. Their partnership produced exceptional pocket watches before dissolving in 1845—when Patek partnered with Jean Adrien Philippe to form what became Patek Philippe.

Czapek continued independently, winning medals at the Great Exhibition of 1851, before his business eventually faded into history.

The Revival

In 2015, a group of watch enthusiasts and industry professionals revived the Czapek name with a crowdfunding campaign. Their goal: create watches worthy of the name's heritage while offering value the established luxury market often doesn't.

The project succeeded beyond expectations, allowing development of proprietary movements and establishing a genuine manufacture.

Place Vendôme

The Place Vendôme collection showcases what modern Czapek does best: elegant dress watches with exceptional dial work, refined case finishing, and movements decorated to haute horlogerie standards. The integrated bracelet versions compete with watches costing significantly more.

Antarctique

The Antarctique represents Czapek's entry into integrated-bracelet sports watches—a category dominated by Patek Philippe's Nautilus and Audemars Piguet's Royal Oak. Czapek's interpretation offers distinctive design and excellent value relative to those icons.

Quai des Bergues

Named after Czapek's original Geneva address, this collection emphasizes classical elegance—thin cases, refined dials, and traditional proportions suited to formal wear.

In-House Movement

Czapek developed the SXH1 caliber—a micro-rotor automatic movement with excellent specifications and finishing that rivals movements in watches costing twice as much. In-house movement development demonstrates serious commitment to horological legitimacy.

Exceptional Finishing

What distinguishes Czapek is finishing quality at their price point. Hand-applied beveling, properly executed Geneva stripes, and careful attention to details typically reserved for more expensive pieces. Collectors notice these qualities.

Czapek Today

Czapek occupies a compelling position: historical legitimacy, modern design sensibility, haute horlogerie finishing, and pricing that offers genuine value. For collectors seeking refined dress watches without paying flagship brand premiums, Czapek provides a sophisticated alternative.
