Watch Crystal Types
The crystal protects your watch dial. Here are the main types:
Crystal Types
- Sapphire — Most scratch-resistant (9 on Mohs scale). Standard on luxury watches.
- Mineral — Glass-based, good scratch resistance. Common on mid-range watches.
- Hardlex — Seiko's proprietary mineral crystal. Enhanced durability.
- Acrylic/Hesalite — Plastic. Shatters less, scratches easily but can be polished.
Did You Know?
The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch uses Hesalite crystal because it won't shatter in space conditions.
